Men & Women's clothing
Rotterdam has great shopping, the full spectrum is on offer here. You can find the UK chains such as H&M and C&A, Principles, and Miss Etam along with other international brands such as Laura Ashley, Esprit, Armani Exchange, etc. For boutique women's clothing, try the Hillegersberg shopping district, a couple of surprising finds in the Capelle a/d Ijssel shopping centre. In Rotterdam Centrum is the self styled "Fashion District" of the city with the main street being the Lijnbaan for name brand boutiques. Included in this fashion district are stores to the east of the centre - Meent, Goudse Singel, Pannenkoekstraat and the Hoogstraat. Or in another direction try - Oude and Nieuwe Binnenweg. You can also try China Town (West Kruiskade) has many up and coming designer labels.
Good Dutch brands are Didi, Promiss and Vero Moda. De Bijenkorf and Vroom & Dreesman also house a wide selection of brand-name clothing.
Books & educational
Most of the selection of children's books and educational supplies are in the Dutch language, you have a couple of options to buy in English. You can buy also online through Amazon.co.uk.

Donner are the largest book store in Rotterdam and have a reasonable selection of books, travel guides and magazines in English. Ask at the information counter where you need to go. The store covers over five floors and mezzanine levels.

Toys & games
The two main toy stores in Netherlands are Intertoys and Bart Smit; represented throughout Netherlands and Rotterdam in cities and shopping centres. In most cases, you won't find many toys, dvd's or games in the English language.
Toys'R'Us are at Alexandrium; you can buy large items such as bikes, outdoor play huts as well as the usual toys, games, dvd's, soft toys.
You can also buy a selection of toys, books and games at Vroom & Dreesman, de Bijenkorf, Blokker, Hema, Kruidvat, and Trekpleister.

Outlet malls
There are two outlet malls in the Netherlands at opposite ends of the country.
Lelystad Outlet Centre

This centre is smaller and carries the main brands and some design outlets. You will also find sunglasses stores, jewelry and accessories and shoes.

Opening hours : 10am to 6pm 7 days per week, extended hours Thursdays to 8pm
Provides a great Kinderopvang, supervised care for children 3 to 6 years of age. Nominal charge. Large covered kids play area with outdoor seating, clown entertainment and musicians wandering around.
Around 2 hrs south drive from Rotterdam.
